Glenn's Obituary (written by Glenn Elfman)

Glenn Eugene Elfman (December 15, 1944 – June 3, 2007) departed terrestrially controlled flight on June 3rd at his Pistol River home after a 10 year hostile takeover by cancer. He was 62. Born and raised in Southern California, Glenn was an avid surfer, spending much of his time as shark chum in the waters off Southern and Central California for 25 years. He attended high school and junior college in Pasadena, California where he met friend, lover and partner, Linda Yancey in 1962.

Glenn & Linda were married in 1965 while he was on two years of active duty with the U.S. Army. He later served for 5 years with the California National Guard as a Computer Specialist and Public Affairs Officer. Fleeing Southern California in 1967, he attended college at California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo majoring in architecture and worked a number of jobs during his life including, service station attendant, auto mechanic, roofer, carpenter, army grunt, missile crewman, draftsman, dispatcher, pilot, wine & spirits salesman, computer operator, photographer, data processing manager and architectural designer. Glenn was Director of Computer Services for Curry County until his retirement in 2004 and maintained his own architectural design business, Pistol River Design, for 20 years.

With Linda’s encouragement, Glenn began a life-long love affair with flying in 1970, owning three aircraft, earning both airplane and glider ratings and logging more than 3000 hours over the past 36 years. He & Linda lived in Los Osos, California for 18 years and moved to Curry County in 1985. Glenn served as president of the Brookings Flying Club for 5 years and one of his greatest joys was sharing his passion for flight with anyone willing to cheat death and strap in.

Glenn had an insatiable interest in music, was a passable guitar player, a questionable singer, and remained active with the Pistol River Concert Association for 15 years.

Those surviving life with Glenn are his wife and best friend, Linda, his mother Florence Elfman, the "Australian Shepherd of Shore Pines," his sister and coconspirator, Deanna Wild of Wedderburn, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and more good friends than one man should be entitled to have. "Moe," Glenn’s father, mentor, copilot, conscience and hero, died in 1998.

In lieu of flowers, Glenn requested that memorial donations be made to those angels among us, Curry County Hospice, Compassion and Choices of Oregon, or Habitat for Humanity.
