Music That Sweeps Your Heart To The Sea
A Pistol River concert is an
evening's adventure
that lightens your heart, inspires your soul, and sends you home stronger and brighter for the
journey.
Drive along Highway 101, search for the turn-off - the innocuous Pistol River Post Office sign, a subtle widening in the highway - tiny clues that take you to an unassuming – yet magical venue. South Pistol River – Old Highway 101, the road less traveled, reveals a matronly building at the very heart of this tiny community. The Friendship Hall is home to the Pistol River Concert Association and a gift to music and music lovers from ancestors long gone. Hiding behind humble walls, it is a community's living room, standing witness to all manner of rural passages including over 20 precious years of monthly celebrations of music, coastal living and friendship.
Voices, strings, winds, percussions. Folk, jazz, classical, blues. Since 1982, the Pistol River Concert Association has quietly and deliberately earned its sterling reputation for bright sounds, warm audiences, and music of the caliber too often reserved for larger venues. The non-profit, member based, Concert Association preserves a grass-roots musical heritage. Forgoing larger halls, brighter lights and bigger marquees, performers and patrons come to support a principle and a passion; each performance is as unique and rich as its patrons are appreciative. Snuggled in cozy couches and chairs, concert goers share a warmth and intimacy that finds them not so much an audience as participants in a musical adventure. Barefoot, well heeled, brand-new, or well seasoned, an evening in Pistol River is both a journey and a gift. Treat yourself. Susan Mathisen |
